Can he do it? Probably not.
But we know a man who can.
Tony Smith. Former head of UK Border Force and currently heading up the Alternative Arrangements panel...
On LBC radio he openly stated that there is already a technological answer to the Irish Border problem.
Mr Smith said ‘A producer had digitally tracked a pack of bacon from its source in Ireland right through the UK to the retailer in Europe.
They could tell you exactly where the lorry was stopped or every time the container was opened and inspected.’
He added ‘The digital technology is here and had we started to install it three years ago the solution would be up and running now.’
He also suggested AEO status needed to gain ground. This would enable more digital HMRC declarations made at the place of origin or the ultimate destination, or indeed anywhere in between.
If Boris does manage the superhuman task of removing the Irish backstop in 30 days, chances are that trading conditions will improve everywhere.
If not, all is not lost.
Britannia Bureau is in a position to help any one of 170,000 companies that will suddenly find themselves having to deal with HMRC for the first time.
We can still guide companies towards gaining AEO status. (or prepare them for a compatible version of it.)
We are ever ready to help you reorganise supply chains utilising HMRC disclosures away from traditional ports and help you avoid unnecessary delays and costs post Brexit.
We can advise on the use of ‘freeports’ for those involved in EU manufacturing chains.
We have now built a pan European network and opened a ‘single window’ data entry customs reporting system.
So, should you – or any company you deal with – need Brexit help remember we always have a few supermen (and superwomen) of our own on hand.
